2004 Industrial Commodity Statistics Yearbook

ST/ESA/STAT/SER.P/44

The 2004 Industrial Commodity Statistics Yearbook is the 38th annual compilation of statistics on world industrial production. The publication is bi-lingual (English and French).

The 2004 Industrial Commodity Statistics Yearbook has been published in hardcover. Click here to order.

This edition of the Yearbook was prepared during a transition from a List of industrial products, developed in 1971, to a new List that was established in 2005 and used for the first time in the round of questionnaires for this Yearbook. The current edition shows only data for commodities that are carried over to the new List. Data according to the new List (about 600 commodities), using a new coding system and including not only quantity data, but also monetary value data, will be published in the 2005 Yearbook.

This edition of the Yearbook contains annual quantity data on production of industrial commodities by country and geographical region. The statistics refer to the ten year period 1995-2004 for about 200 countries and areas.

The coding system used for the commodities throughout the Yearbook is based on the International Standard Industrial Classification of All Economic Activities (ISIC), Revision 2. Please consult the link above to view a correspondence table between these ISIC Rev.2-based codes and the corresponding codes in the Standard International Trade Classification (SITC, SITC Rev.2, SITC Rev.3) and the Harmonized System (HS 1996).

The data in this publication are extracted from the UN Statistics Division Commodity Production Statistics Database. This database is also available on CD-ROM. The current pricing is $500 for the full database covering the years 1950-2004. Customized subsets of the database are available for a basic fee of $100 (up to 10 tables); larger or customized subsets are also available.

The data on Industrial Commodity Statistics is collected through a yearly questionnaire sent to national statistical offices. In addition, data from the following specialized and intergovernmental agencies have been utilized to supplement our statistics: Afristat (Bamako, Mali), Asian Development Bank (Manila), Fiber Economics Bureau (USA), Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (Rome), International Iron and Steel Institute (Brussels), International Rubber Study Group (London), International Sugar Organization (London), International Grains Council (London) and the Organization of the Islamic Conference (Jeddah, Saudi Arabia).
