17.1. Introduction. The present chapter elaborates on the recommendations contained in IMTS 2010, chapter VII, on mode of transport. It contains a description of good practices in respect to their implementation. Annex XVII.A contains a description of modes of transport for IMTS purposes. Owing to its importance, the recommendation to compile international merchandise trade statistics by mode of transport was reintroduced and strengthened in IMTS 2010. It had not been contained in the second revision of IMTS although it had been mentioned in the first revision.[1]
